Call for Participation
The Call for Participation in the CHI2004 | ICSID FORUM is now closed.
This FORUM will consider current efforts to humanize technology from many perspectives. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Healthcare systems and products
- Robotics and transport*
- Games, learning and entertainment*
- Mobile communications*
- Security and safety
- Decision support products and systems
- Universal usability, cultural and social differences
- Wearables, Sensories, Augmentatives
- Transparency and Pervasiveness of Computing
- Sustainability and environmental impact
- Tools that think for themselves
(*These are also themes of focus in the CHI2004 meeting which will be held immediately following the FORUM, at the same venue in Vienna.)
With this call, we invite design sketches in designing a product or service that demonstrates the efforts of humanizing technologies from various perspectives . Important criteria for selection in the FORUM are
- the process of creating the product or service includes a prototype or final design which can be shared with the audience. We are interested in sharing different approaches to the design process;
- the product or service involves the use of digital tools in one or more stages of its creation, irrespective of whether the product or service itself includes digital components in its final production; We are interested in how those tools might contribute to humanization of technologies during the creative phase of the design process;
- in cases where digital components are part of the final product design we are interested in how these components contributed to the humanization of the product;
- the design has undergone formal evaluation, whether from laboratory user testing, feedback from the target user population or active iterative participation by content experts who are distinct from the designer population. We are eager to learn of innovative evaluation techniques as well and how they contributed to humanizing users interaction with an artifact;
The FORUM anticipates lively interaction in Vienna, Austria, among a group of 200 participants from academia, industry, studio and laboratories; it assumes contributions of high quality peer-reviewed documents to the ACMs Digital Library. We hope many of the participants in this FORUM will join in the activities of CHI2004 during the remainder of the week in Vienna.
